WTF ? ...

This week’s WTF will test your memory as you will be choosing between a rare table and an oft-forgotten table; the Audionics of Oregon LK-1 and the Connoisseur BD-2. Given the recent discussion about giving belt-drive tables a push start brought the Connoisseur to mind. Note the kick-start built into the start switch (on the left). As you swing the start lever to the “on” position a little rubber bumper would contact the platter and give it a helpful push as it started up.

The most notable feature of the Audionics is its all out assault on the negative effects of playing a record with the dustcover in the down position. While Audionics did fairly well with their amp (CC-2) and pre-amp (BT-2), they sold very few tables and were not in business all that long. They also made a surround sound processor called the “Space and Time Composer”. This unit was ahead of its time and fell flat on its face. The shop I worked for in ’76 had the LK-1 table on display, but I remember little about it ...other than I thought it was butt ugly.

So which of these relics do you choose ?

I’ll take the Connoissuer. I’ve never heard one, but I have handled one and it seemed well put together. It was the first table I had ever seen that had a belt that ran around the perimeter of the platter. Cool stuff in the early 70s.

So, which table will you take ?

Edit/Note: Reminder on how this works ...they are FREE and you must pick one. Sorry, 'dems 'da rules.

Have a great weekend.

Dean.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
