"One "expert" opinion I didn't really understand about the Zephyr was, "its great on stuff other than R&R" The opinion(dealer) also sold Lyra."
It seems unlikely on paper, but I think I understand. Last night I was playing some R&R and the Zephyr's very amped up presentation was a bit too much. I played Alejandro Escovedo's "Big Station" and The Shins "Chutes Too Narrow". I am hoping the cartridge just needs a little break in time to settle in a bit. If the Glider is a little too thin and polite, the Zephyr is on the other side of the dividing line by a good margin-a bit raw, a bit too lively. While checking tracking force, I noticed that any minor tapping on the base of my Classic was amplified to the point of being alarming with the Zephyr stylus down. This has to be part of the equation. Like I said, I got what I was looking for and thank goodness I have two tables with the Benz Glider in the Thorens which IS a good pairing (despite having another VPI arm).
