My first unit was a demo with a motor that died and was replaced quickly by Music Direct. The first few days the new motor sounded like yours but then settled in to quiet start-ups at 33, a little Unhh at 45. Just like my HW-19.
I added a Herbies Mat and trashed the drawer liner that came away with each record. With the Herbies I can keep the platter spinning between sides. It also sounds just a bit tighter with it.
With most conventional bearing tables, it can take overnight for the platter to seat after re-oiling; I guess it's the same for inverteds.
Manuals are not the Weisfeld's long suit going back to the HW-19s. They're from New Jersey, if you don't know what to do, it's your own damn fault ;-}
