You definitely DO want to use that arm. It is excellent.
Have you considered getting a platter bearing assy and motor / pulley assy from VPI and building a table. It's MUCH easier than people think. Build a base / plinth from laminated sheets of MDG or void-free birch plywood. 12" wide by 18" deep. Use a 1" to 1 1/2" think armboard that bolts to the corner of the plinth and gives enough rise to the arm and cartridge to match up with the top of the platter.
I did that with VPI TNT components with great results. And the arm was a SA-750D.
