1953 and '54 sessions recorded by Van Gelder are given excellent treatment by OJC. Everything you'd expect from these groups but with something extra special:
Jazz French Horn! I'd never heard it before and on "Friday The Thirteenth" I fell in love with it as a Jazz instrument. There are tonal shadings, slurs and muffling imposible on Trumpet or Cornet or Trombone. Forget Flugelhorn. French horn is as much the King of Brass Instruments for Monk as for Weber!
