RE: An Empire Turntable History and Rough Time Line

"I have an early 60's Empire with no model number on the top. However etched on the underside is A108, and a few inches above that is the number 2252. I would call this a model A108."

No, A108 is a part number. The basic turntable (motor unit/platter) was a 208. Even with the factory base, it was still a 208. Add the 98 arm and it was a 298. Add the arm but take away the wooden base and it was a 288. Even from the start, Empire's model numbers were on the confusing side.
