Dead on...

Depends on the mood, but I have multiple favorites in rock, pop, folk, jazz, Celtic, classical, world and nearly everything else. If it moves me, it's a favorite.

I suspect we self-medicate with music to bring happiness, heal our hurts and simply entertain.

The other thing I notice is that I "consume" music, in that I always need to hear new things. Thus the trips to the thrifts and the used vinyl store (and occasional CD purchases from Amazon) never seem to stop. It's more than the thrill of the hunt; I have to keep hearing some new things as well as all the old favorites.
