Hi Tao,
Those Classic reissues from over a decade ago were all done on the older Bernie Grundman mastering chain which is frankly quite outclassed by his recently upgraded system including a complete Cardas rewire. Not only that but the new system allows Bernie to cut LP direct to lathe without going through the EQ board (on those occasions where the tape quality allows us to do so).
Some recent or forthcoming ORG titles cut direct to lathe include:
- Jon Hendricks Fast Living Blues
- Charlie Mingus - Mingus Ah Um
- Duke Ellington Blues In Orbit
- Blood Sweat & Tears s/t
- Duke Ellington Jazz Party In Stereo
- Aaron Neville Warm Your Heart
The Mingus Ah Um reference lacquers were played in the AR/Basis/Vandersteen room in THE Show Newport Beach and caused a minor stir in the audience (which included AJ Conti, Joe Harley, Richard Vandersteen etc.) as did the reference lacquers of the Blood Sweat & Tears.
There's more info on the upgraded mastering chain on the ORG website but let me emphasise in no uncertain terms - the older Grundman Classic masterings are not going to match what ORG and Bernie are doing right now.
Thanks. Groovenoter
