As an example...

I understand the PD-444 was designed by Micro Seiki as well, but the motor was made by Nihon Servo (which is now a subsidiary of Nidec).

FWIW, I have seen somewhere in the bowels of a serious Japanese analysis on the subject that the PD-121 had the motor from the SP-10 (the original, not the SP-10Mk2), which is an FG type servo and the PD-121A had a Nihon Servo motor (which is a PLL). I have not owned a PD121 so cannot confirm.

Both Luxman and Micro were, at their heart, design shops - not manufacturing shops. A lot of their actual production was outsourced in their heyday. I did some digging into Luxman about 6-7yrs ago - at the time they had a full line of products and all of 21 employees. They manufactured nothing of what had their name on it. Actual manufacturing was sub-contracted out.
