I made two changes at once: I upgraded from a JMW 10.5 to 10.5i and I swapped out the Aries 1 chassis for the Aries 3 chassis. This was a VERY significant upgrade. I wish I could tell you how much the arm itself contributed, but I can't say for sure. But, based on the improvements i heard when adding a Tyr tonearm cable, I think the Valhalla wiring had a lot to do with the improvements I heard in midrange and treble clarity. So I think you will hear this too with the Classic 3 arm plus maybe even more. The Aries 3 chassis and the more rigid arm I think contributed to much better PRAT and dynamics.
Roger talk to Mike at VPI about doing both the arm and chassis upgrade at the same time. I think you will be thrilled with the improvements you hear. I concluded after this that the original Aries w/10.5 was not at all in the same league as the Aries 3 w/10.5i.
Another benefit: the Aries 3 is a much better looking table IMHO.
Note that I had a Helkon at the time I made the swap, but am now using a Skala.
