Hi, Funky,
If you have the original packaging and you place the turntable among other good solid boxes you shouldn't have any problem. The cartridge will ride just as safely (maybe better) attached to a headshell as in a cartridge box. I removed the cartridges from the tonearms but that's because I'm insane and like to set up cartridges. As for the LPs, I went ahead and spent the extra cash for specially designed LP boxes. I purchased the ones offered through Sleeve City, the "Diskeeperâ„¢ Ultimate LP Storage Box". At
70 cents$7.00 per box they're expensive but were well worth the money. When you cosider the cost per LP (8 cents) it was cheap insurance. You could easily stand on a stack of them and the boxes wouldn't flex or crush at all. Not that I did anything like that. ;-) I do recommend taping the lids down because they'll come loose otherwise. The boxes rode in a U-Haul truck all the way across the country during temps that varied from 97F to 28F and humidity from 10% to 90%. The USA's interstate system is showing its age and those record boxes took some nasty hits when my truck bounced through some attrocious concrete pothole minefields. No problems.
Good luck and enjoy the new digs.
Regards,
Tom
