My son Nate (texanater), daughter-in-law, & grandkids came to visit this weekend. He decided to present my father's day present early. He upgraded the ICs on my Technics SL1210mk2 TT. He replaced the stock ICs with old stock Petra cables (apparently Petras are no longer the great bargain, high quality ICs they used to be). The result is clear & substantive sonic improvement in quiet background, dynamics, space, & detail. I'm a lucky dad to have a son with knack for soldering cuz I sure ain't got it.
My 1210 now has the following upgrades: KAB tonearm trough (purchased shortly after getting the table) and the following which were gifts for birthdays, xmas, etc., from Nate, strobe disabler, applied fidelity upgraded turntable bearing, and now upgraded ICs. The 'table sounds wonderful. Down the road Nate said he'd be glad to install the KAB tonearm with upgraded Cardas tonearm wire. Gotta say, I'm a very lucky & grateful dad.
