I had one of the Keith Monks domestic models in the early 80s and the methodology is not unlike the Loricraft. Many people swear by the Loricraft but, like you, I would find it finicky to use and I don't like the thread aspect of the machine which is borrowed from the Keith Monks' models. I would never buy a Loricraft and will stick with my VPI HW 17F in spite of the 'jet engine' type noise it emits!
There are some nice looking machines from Clearaudio in Germany? The downside is that they are expensive in Europe so they are probably even more expensive in the United States. If I recall correctly, they are quieter in operation than most other machines. The VPI Typhoon would probably be a more sensible choice from a cost standpoint, even at 2k?
