I got a copy of this last week. It's a really great album, and another great Blue Note album cover. I was looking at the cover, and though I recognized the font on the magazine Herbie's holding. I googled "Playboy 1963 covers" and sure enough, it looks like the November 1963 Playboy. The album was recorded August 30, 1963. Any guesses when the photo might have been taken? Or has anyone ever heard anything about the cover?
The photo could have been taken in October, when the November issue probably would have hit the stands. Or maybe it was taken later in Nov, Dec, Jan, and the November Playboy was meant as some sort of weird nod/tribute to JFK?
