Home Vinyl Asylum

Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

Wow, nice piece of history, thanks Kal.

Another one to keep an eye out to find.

If I'd had the slightest thought back when I was buying 100-200 LPs every week, that I'd want an older table I would have had (If I'd bought them all) a dozen, at the least. In the CD introduction phase, people shed tables along with ridding their home of those useless plastic, scratchy things. The mind set of those days was definitely to look forward, not seeking the past year's great equipment. For people like myself, newer was always better.

I saw a number of rosewood Denons, gorgeous works of audio art, and I know I saw a lot of large, heavy chassis affairs. Most with arms that looked like large versions of the arms that one would find on their plastic, fold-up record players.

Those were not the gorgeous "hunks" the Denons were, but obviously I'd passed up many great opportunities. Those "plain Jane" tables were probably all designed to give years of service and high quality sound.

I need a time machine!

I tell my wife when she's out and stops at a yard sale, to bring home anything that makes her grunt from its weight (nothing that is mobile & carbon based). I can get rid of the junk. I can't if I never see it in the first place; but I knew there would be a second "wave" of attic and garage flotsam and jetsam.

I think this year's yard sales should be awesome; one can hope.
