Quad 44 phono / opamps

Hi,

I just wonder if anyone has had any success with modding the phono stage of this pre amp with new opamps. There are various postings on the newsgroups re varying success with new opamps in general. Any thoughts here, also?? I am thinking of taking the plunge. The 44 looks to hae great phono specs but doesnt sound as such in stock form.
