I'm not sure which dac you are using , but I use a Scott Nixon DacKit and I run the digital out from the back of the transport(small 2 wire plug) directly to the DacKit input. You should be able to run the wires to the (or better) rca out , and use an ic to your dac. 75ohm cable would work well. In my system , this direct hookup made a large improvement.
