removing and re-applying glue to dial pointer...help!

hi gang. i have a marantz 2235b receiver that i have cleaned up and relamped. looks and sounds great! one last thing is re-aligning the dial pointer which is off about .3 mhz across the board. not much but i guess i'm just fussy. i feel it does not need an fm alignment because reception is good and the strength meters are working properly. the tuning string seems to be hot melted with glue directly to the back of the pointer. what is the best way to remove the glue and to re-apply after moving the pointer over? what tools and type of glue do i need to accomplish this? thanks for any input.
regards........paul
