I changed two analog OP amp in my SONY CD player to OPA2604. It was working OK. Recently, I decided to modify it again to improve harshness in the top end. The original ICs are NJM2114 with +5.1 and -6.4 supply. Since the power supply voltage is limited. I decided to use +-5 volt supply with 7805 and 7905 regulators with OPA2604.The sound of the OPA2604 was worse than before for the top end. Now the sound breaks up badly when playing loud music. When I put the NJM2114 back, it sounds better. Since NJM2114 has minimum supply at +-3 volt and OPA2604 has minimum supply at +-4.5 volt, could it be possible that I need to have higher supply voltage for OPA2604? Will +-6 volt OK?
During the modification, I also removed the mute circuit and some 22 ohm resistors in the signal path after the OP amp. Should I put the three 22 ohm resistors back? Could there be some stability issue with the OPA2604?
