Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

I met a studio engineer recently who tried to convince me that virtually all of the digital nasties (hardness, metallic sound, etc.) can be eliminated by a good EQ (parametric)with a notch filter in the 5-6 KHz region. He actually demoed this in his system with an expensive EQ. It sounded pretty good. He also stated that any phase shifting brought in via the EQ will be more than offset by the elimination of hard digital sound. Further, he stated that a tube-based EQ will give you the best of both worlds.Does this sound plausible and if so, is this the frequency range (5-6 KHz) that might be affected by digital artifacts? I am actually considering trying this in my system and I am wondering where to start from a frequency/notch filter perspective. 5-6 KHz sounds a little high to me.
Any opinions appreciated.
