Mpoes, looks whats inside the X-LP. Are you handy with a soldering iron? Check my monster phono amp and my normal one. The monster amp can be yours for about 150-300 USD! I have used cheap parts and squeezed out every possible achievable performance. You can even tweak the design to get even more.Check my designs. Complex, yes and no! Each stage is well designed and not very dependant of other stages. Characteristics are easily changed. You can choose almost any part you like. I have made room for matched BC847BS, cheap and good. I have also room for MAT02/03 very expensive and very good also. If you have come across some SMD types I have also room for those.
Despite the complexness everyone who has built this amp has succeeded quite well. If you do place the parts in the right places the amp will work without much trimming.
Some people don't like complex designs by nature but I recommend to just listen! This amp sounds real good. OK, I can't find any defects. Is that better? Those of you who wants something easier, check my normal RIAA amp with LT1115, LT1028. Extreme performance also. Pcb's are coming soon.
