Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

I just replaced both of the Vifa tweeters on my 10-year old three-way speakers (one of the old ones died). I used the current Vifa version of the same tweeters. I broke them in for several days, but the overall sound of the speakers is still too bright. I suppose this is either because the spanking new tweeters don't match well with the old well-worn mids and woofers, or the new tweeters are slightly more efficient than the old ones.Anyway, I wanted to fix this with an L-pad to attenuate 1 dB. I used a calculator to get appropriate resistor values. The thing is, I'm confused about how to compute what wattage the resistors should be able to handle.
I used the formula at http://lalena.com/audio/electronics/rcl/ The appropriate values are R1=0.65 ohm, R2=49.1 ohm, Rated Power of driver is 100 Watts. With these values in that equation W1= 1.3W and W2= 98.7W. How the heck do you get a resistor that can handle 98.7W ???
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks
