Passive Preamp on shoestring budget

After getting a new CDP for my main system, I moved the Pioneer PD-54 up to my office. Problem is that previously I used my Sony Diskman CDP which had a level control. So I decided to make a passive preamp. With my wallet only about $15 lighter following a trip to Radio Shack, here is the result. I used the knobs leftover from a front panel replacement for my ARC preamp. Ironically, each knob costs more than the entire preamp!

Thanks to Steve Eddy for technical assistance. Henceforth, I've dubbed it the SE-1. (hope you don't take that as an insult, Steve!) BTW, adding the 8k (er actually a 10k) resistor to the linear pot worked like you suggested. I'm enjoying it as I write this.
