Anyone else have this experience?

Just for kicks I recently tried some old "homebrew" interconnects in my main system. I'd made them out of microphone wire with Ratshack gold plated RCA's years ago as a penniless grad student. Guess what? They're in my main system now, after a week of critical listening. The midrange is way more musical than the wonderfully pretty Monstercables that were in my primary system; I'm actually enjoying my music more. Last night I felt myself falling into the music and forgetting all about judging the sound. It's been a while since that happened!

Anyone else have this happen?

Now, I'm starting to think about warming up the old soldering iron and putting together something with better quality materials. Maybe solid core silver wire in teflon? Or a cat5 cable? Any ideas or opinions on which direction I should go? Also, where should I go for a better grade of RCA plug than the ones I've got now?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Enjoy your music,
Morse
