The old op-amp decoupling thread

216.13.52.5

Hi,

a little experience I want to share. For some times , I play with my preamp that consist of a bare OPA2604 with a gain of 2. The PS I use only have a 10uF after the last regulator across + and GND and one across - and GND. I add another 10uF directly between + and - and listen to that for almost one year. Then, two weeks ago, after reading here that bigger caps should be use, I add a 1000uF between the + and GND (same thing for the minus one) directly across the IC. Now that I remove those 1000uF, I feel better. Adding such big caps sucked the life of the sound and the bass become fat and boomy. The soundstage lost focus too. And I tried too with a OPA2134 and appart the thing that this IC present the sound in a non-dynamic and lazy way, the bass remain the same: fat and boomy. So far, my advise will be to be moderated on the value you put across the line!

Regards,
Daniel Trudeau
