Thanks! :-) that's good news.
I just found a 5 hours pink noise track on Youtube. Will play it sometimes at night, and some other nights it will be music.
Silmics sound quite bad for a while, can't wait for the burn-in process to be over, every time.
When I recapped my preamp (that was a lot of caps at once), I thought I had done something wrong, it sounded so thick and muffled (after sounding bright as hell for the first few hours). Then at some point midrange and treble came to life again and it was perfect. But what a pain!
When I did my Revox B226, it was my first recap and I was changing caps two by two, so the "new caps bad sound" effect was never as pronouced.
The active crossover I'm busy doing now, I've only done the input and output coupling caps so far. It's very interesting to note that two back-to-back brand new unburned Silmics II 100uF caps are still way smoother and more transparent than the old single United Chemicon 10uF polar cap.
I've read that for maximum transparency one should avoid big value caps, that's why it's so important to calculate the right value. But my experience with back-to-back Silmics makes me think it depends widely on the cap used...
