When researching Type X caps , for across the ac line I read that there is no concern about shock as there would be for Y type use, hot to ground. Looks like the big concern would be fire if the across the line caps failed. In a previous conversation with Aerovox as I said before , they told me they were Type X. They do meet the EIA-456-A which includes self extinguishing. They are made for ac and made not to catch fire. This has been brought up by me in the past as has the safety concern. No one yet has given an answer as to why this would be unsafe. Once again these caps, while not made specifically for RF suppression are for AC application and are self extinguishing. I am checking once again with Aerovox. So, a good question to ponder would be are Type X and Type Y the only caps that are safe across the line. The value is an issue if it draws too much current to blow the breaker. No problem with 300uf in my situation. There is a formula to calculate the current draw of across the line caps. Tweaker
