Bamboo (Ikea Aptitlig) vs MDF as platforms for floorstanders

HI Guys,

Seeking opinions on Ikea Bamboo butcher blocks as speaker platforms. Floor is wood laminate over concrete. When knocked, wood laminate has a hollow sound, hence the decision to place speaker on a platform of some sort. Presently using 3/4 inch MDF as platforms. Just placed flat on floor.

Floorstanders are spiked (rounded tip)without spike discs. Thinking of replacing the MDF platforms with Aptitlig Bamboo butcher blocks from Ikea. I believe there are 2 sizes...large is 1 1/4 inch thick and the thinner block is 3/4 inch thick. Is thicker better in this application? Though not expensive, there is quite a difference in price. Wouldn't mind springing for the thicker block if it would make a difference though.

Has anyone compared MDF and Bamboo as speaker platforms? Any feedback on differences in SQ (if any)will be greatly appreciated. Will I be wasting my time and money?
