Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ.

I really would advise...

you to get a cheap scope if you are going to do tweaking on gear. You can't always depend on what others say. I did a few tweaks that other's in other forums/posts that said a certain IC would work and found out with using a scope that the part/circuit would cause oscillation. The only way I could have known was with a scope.

Sometimes when you have oscillation the part gets hot and or sounds bright/harsh. Ringing (bad) is only found with a scope.

Depending on the application and circuit it's hard to say if a certain part will BEAT another part but the OPA 2604 is a good sounding IC for a good price. The part you are asking about may just sound different but not necessarily better. Let your own ears be the judge of what sounds best in your system. Soon I will have to try that part out and see for myself how it sounds/compares to the OPA-2604.

The OPA-2134 is not bad once you find the trick to tame the slight harshness it has. I have some in my DIY preamp cause I couldn't use the OPA-2604 at the time due to oscillation in that circuit. I'm happy with the sound of that preamp now that I have cured that harshness it had and it's right there with some very expensive preamps in sound. Even a buddy of mine that has a nice system was shocked at how good that DIY preamp sounds compared to the expensive ones I have/had.
