New isolation base for my TT.

A few days ago I posted a question about what to put under my new turntable. Got some good suggestions, looked around but didn't find anything both reasonable and likely to be effective. So I decided to make my own.

Basic construction is MDF. The sides and top are 3/4" MDF, bottom 1/2". I cut the edges of the sides and top at 45 degrees so there wouldn't be a seam. The finished base looks like one solid piece of material. The sides are 2" high, so that left a 3/4" space in the middle. I filled the space with about 8 lbs. of black sand and capped the back. Finished it in gloss black to match my TT plinth and set the whole assembly on 1" spikes. It's dead as a door nail so I don't expect and resonances.

Haven't had a chance to do any extended listening so I've got no opinions as to the effectiveness of the base yet but I'm confident all will be well.
