RE: Mounting diodes

I did not mean to be understood that way. I have no way of knowing whether upgrading the diodes in your PS will actually constitute an audible improvement. There is nothing wrong with trying it. However, what I did mean to say was that your angst over what audio quality diode to use was not worth it. You've changed your mind repeatedly which is a sign of anxiety over a trivial issue. (I know from personal experience.) UF or Schottky or fred should be fine. But since you asked, I would choose UF or Schottky over fred. Is this full-wave rectification or half-wave? If its currently half-wave, there might be something to be gained by going to full wave. (How many diodes are in the circuit?) Are there bypass capacitors across each of the OEM diodes (usually .01uF ceramic capacitors)? If you go Schottky, you don't need the bypass capacitors.
