Everyone has read reviews where the grill cloth affects the high treble.
I put that knowledge to use. My Thiel CS2.3 towers can be too hot in my small room on bad recordings or pressings. I'm experimenting with putting a T-shirt over each, as if the speaker is wearing it. So there is one layer of cotton over the mid/tweeter. Midrange passes right through, just like it passes through grill cloth, but it slightly reduces the treble.
When I pull out a real old CD, I'm experimenting with two layers. In this case, I just drape the T over the sloping front of each speaker. Two layers, more treble cut.
I don't use the treble pot on my ADCOM GFP-565 because I'm in the Bypass mode.
