DIY Feet of Silence - questions

I just noticed the Solid Tech Feet of Silence in a magazine ad, and I think I can make it out of wood and other parts (metal bolts, extension springs). Also I think I could incorporate HipJoints in the interior of the Feet. It looks like it's pretty easy to order extension springs rated to a specific Spring Constant (the amount of force required to extend the spring a certain distance).

What I don't know how to do is determine what spring constants I need for the three springs that go into each Foot, so that I can tune each Foot for a particular weight. In other words, how do I determine the spring constant of the three individual springs if I know my target "total" spring constant for the Foot as a whole.

Also, I don't know how to determine what the appropriate "total" spring constant of each Foot should be if I know how much weight it is meant to support. This is probably a function of some kind of target resonant frequency?

Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks much!
