Will I gain any advantage use a Placette volume controller over my DIY controller

My DIY volume controller sits between my source and my preamp. this is to add remote volume control to a preamp that has none.

My DIY remote volume controller is a 10k metal film resistor in line with the audio path and the 50k remote volume control that is used as a variable shunt to ground. It works well but only in a limited range. And it gets touchy with LOUD stations.

Would the Placette bring something sound wise to the table?
Is/could my DIY volume controller be "altering" the sound in any way?
Would the Placette be better at a truer sound than a simple ground shunt?
Any suggestions?
Would I be better off just staying with the DIY vs. the Placette? The touchy volume thing and limited range are really NOT an issue. I only mentioned it.

Thanks
charles
