I would suppose most of the vibration is from high-energy SPL airborne obtuse bass soundwaves. These vibrations will activate solid, rigid materials in the car to vibrate and resonate at other, higher frequencies. Isolating/decoupling an audio component from these now-mechanically transmitted acute vibrations will help alleviate potential audible distortions caused by these vibrations. Nothing silly about it.
