You asked for it...

My thoughts on the matter are that the battery and circuit are an antenna, picking up on the ever increasing array of electromagnetic noise that's in the air.

The sound is modulating on top of the noise, making a change that can be perceived. The effect of the charge from the battery would be much smaller and swamped by the noise.

A practical test would be to use a dead battery and see what happens.
