Well kind of back to your question. I've DIYed a number of speakers. And honestly - Zaph's SR-71 IS as good as it gets in the monitor class.
Very low distortion speaker. Excellent sound - being very natural with that paper woofer cone. Can take a beating power wise. It actually DOES have some bass - unlike others that claim too. And BTW - that silly cheap $55 tweeter happens to just be one of the best tweeters on the market.
I've been using the SR-71 for about two years and truthfully - it is MY!!!! last speaker build!!!!
Anything from here is just tinkering.
Go for the SR-71 is you are in the monitor class.
