Peakiness and glare . . .

. . . may not be alleviated much by better caps, if they are in fact a function of the crossover design or the drivers themselves. Hard cone woofers often exhibit significant breakup distortion peaks above 6 kHz, which are hard to suppress without throwing a ton of crossover parts at them, and many people wrongly blame the tweeters for the resulting audible problems. A tweeter crossed too low or shallow will likewise sound harsh at the lower end of its range due to distortion. And some speakers simply fail to pad the tweeter adequately, resulting in an up-tilted frequency response which may enhance "detail" in excellent recordings but will surely reveal the problems in bad ones. Such large errors completely swamp the difference made by a better capacitor.
