I've been playing around with household romex for power cords. Solid core 3/14 gauge with ground and three color insulation ( red, black, white, ground un insulated). Using Leviton 5266 male ends and marinco IEC.
Tried hooking up normally: Hot=black, white=neutral, uninsulated=ground, red left dangling. Trying different permutations, the best sound with the clearest and most dynamic presentation was red=hot, white=neutral, black and ground tied together. Single ground wire was OK but doubling up seems to add a bit of "heft" to the sound.
FWIW
