Here is a sketch of the rule of the right hand.
In this case electron flow is by standard convention, moving in the positive direction. In reality, electrons actually move against the positive direction, since they are negatively charged.
When twisting or winding wire I always follow this rule. I find this gives the most open top end (right hand twist). Use of the left hand twist is prevalent however, for some odd reason. Using the same wire but reversing the twist (left hand twist) gives a warmer sound by slightly rolling off the top end.
Of course, you can juggle your system tonality a bit by this method, just something to be aware of, especially for you DIY'ers.
