damn scanner is finally working

Transition from windows 7 to 8 was frustrating. Think I finally got the damn thing working.

here is a design for a simple homemade IC.

Cool thing is you can use bare wire ( Myron Toback's fine silver wire comes to mind).

Buy or cut a strip of parchment paper or plastic, say 3/4 or 1 inch wide. Punch a series of holes along the edge forming roughly a square pattern.

Thread the wire through one hole on one side then through the next hole. You will form a zig zag saw tooth pattern. Then from the other side run the other wire. The paper will keep the wires insulated from shorting to each other and they will cross at 90 degrees reducing EMF interaction. Plus they will have an air dielectric being second best to a vacuum.

If you need insulation a piece of packing tape or even Scotch tape will make an nice insulation ( or teflon tape).

If you wish to experiment with the AQ dBS system, lay down a copper strip on the paper between the holes before threading the wire. Insulate with tape or layers of them, depending on the voltage you want to play with.

Attach a lead out wire at the end and then you can attach it to a 9 volt battery holder. I like the 9 volt batteries because you can series them to increase the voltage, positive male to negative female. I've tried as much as 120 volts or thereabouts and the higher voltages do sound better. More voltage the greater the shock value so BE VERY CAREFULL!!!! If you series a lot of batteries, place them in an insulated box for safety's sake (very important for children and pets and your significant other!!!)

WARNING: The use of high voltage, while low current, will still deliver a heathy jolt !!! Won't kill you (unless you have a pacemaker) but the shock can be pretty nasty ( like touching a doorknob in winter after walking on a wool rug !!!).

Also be careful about the insulation on the copper strip. A friend loved the sound so much he placed the IC on his phono lead out. It shorted to his cartridge and promptly blew the coils....Double or triple the layers of tape if uncertain.

I hook up only the positive wire (or negative, for a different effect). Be very careful when disassembling. Make sure you can unplug the batteries quickly and with out shorting yourself or anything else. Unplug the ICs when making battery changes. You can simply twist the battery bodies to break the series and lower the voltages, but again be careful.Consider putting in a switch if you are not the greatest with hand eye coordination.

No guarantee and no liability implied. If not sure of your abilities, use the design without the battery foil charge

HAve fun and good luck

YMMV of course and FWIW
