speaker repair help needed

Hi. I own Focus Audio FS78SE speakers (very fine). Some time ago, one of the voice coils burnt out due to a failed tube upstream. The company sent a replacement woofer, which I installed myself. I did a hack job soldering the wire to the terminals, but managed, I think to get a decent connection. Anyway, the speaker works. The thing is, even after several months of break-in, I still feel that the sound of the speaker is off. The best way to describe it is as a sharpness or shrillness in the upper midrange and an overall thinness to the sound, relative to the other speaker. Is the issue likely the result of a bad electrical connection or is it more likely another issue (something in the crossover perhaps? Unfortunately, the company did not reply to my last email about the issue (maybe they thought I was crazy?) If anyone can suggest anything to try or tests to do, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
