I use the maple shade approach as it sounds the best to me. The problem with the soft spongy things is that any AIRBORNE vibration still is affecting your device. The spongy things don't drain or release the sound, so whenever I've used such a device, the sound becomes muddled. Wood footers sound like the wood they are composed of-sometimes good and sometimes bad. After trying lots of isolation products I use the maple shade brass cones into maple wood. For the cones you have looked at-go with ebony as I've tried rosewood under my speakers and found them to be soft sounding (music lost pace). Not a bad product from what I see. Also experiment with weight on top of the preamp.
