I have a lot of iron floating around: huge filament and transformers and chokes, mostly military surplus stuff.
I have joined the two terminals for large chokes and it works very well as well as ganging up the leads of the transformers.
I don't use them simply because of the size and weight and the opinions of the significant other. I can dress up a BGT quite nicely.
The larger the iron the longer the break in it seemed, IRC. I haven't tried using a small choke like say for a DYna ST-70. I have a feeling that it would work wonderfully well.
