Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

After almost a year with a couple sets of the free sample black discus, I had pretty much forgotten about them.
Recently, I upgraded, to much success, my conditioner outlet to a furutch gtx with the plate and cover, and also added the furutech plate and cover to the wattgate that feeds my amp.
this recent improvemwnt in sound led me to play more with placement with the BD, and as it turns out, they are very placement AND component sensitive.
To wit, I had two on the underbelly of my CD player, and I removed them tonight to re examine there effectiveness, because the furutech had really increased my systems resolution. Lo and behold, the BD were of no benefit in that space, and actually made the player sound worse. They masked detail, clipped the lowest octave of bass, which made the sound loose weight. They also closed in the soundstage. I was shocked!
They definitely help when used on power cords, but they did not help being placed near the transport mechanism of the CD player. So, I just wanted those who have tried them, to make sure they really experiment with placement, because it is very critical!
