For a phono stage, I presume, batteries should be OK.

I built a LRPS (Linear Regulated Power Supply, I think!).

$50 Case
$20 Toroid
$20 Regulator
$10 Connectors

The case was so nice, that the whole phono stage went in it as well, as I didn't see the need for an extra box in the equation.

Some day I can try batteries, but I didn't see the need to. It seems VERY quiet is all I can say.
