Difference in Sound Quality between Speaker Spikes in Outriggers and Speaker Bases

Pictureguy,

As you can see from the attached link, brass is conductive but follows behind the leaders - silver, copper, gold, aluminum, bronze, beryllium, magnesium, and rhodium.

I expose all metal screws to a magnet and only brass/ a small minority of stainless steel screws are not attracted so have substituted plastic for all machine screws except those in the Denon CDP/DVD (plastic degrades the video) and holding the faceplate to the tweeter (brass exerts more pressure for superior sound quality). Slotted or Phillips-head plastic screws from McMaster-Carr are excellent and some Teflon tape remnants in a screw-hole were sufficient resistance to cause the single shearing experience to date but am careful not to over-tighten.

Incidentally, for those with speaker spikes capable of being fixed either in outriggers or in the bottom of speakers, compare the sound with the spikes in both configurations. Today I was about to order some replacements for the 12 magnetic ferrous screws holding the outriggers to the speakers and stopped to make this comparison. The improvement in transparency with the spikes in the speaker bases is remarkable and placing a dozen tiles on top of each speaker made them just as stable as previously with the outrigger. This is not a tweak but nevertheless offers a substantial improvement for those that can pass the vibration direct through the brass spikes without diverting through blocks of aluminum.
