Many amps, etc. sound better with the cover off.....so, one could just solder the speaker wires directly to the wires where they are soldered to the inside of the binding posts. Now you have the better sound of "no cover" and the better sound of "no binding post" and you can always unsolder when you want to resell. Of course, there is the "dust in the amp issue"...handled by covering it with a flat piece of something when not in use. Spades and bananas wreck the sound too. This way you have bare wire soldered to bare wire. There are always practical issues to deal with...however, creativity knows no bounds.
