Calming the Apartment Refrigerator Beast...

The reverberating sound of a refrigerator is a constantly distracting irritant to an apartment occupant and, particularly, to an audiophile. Turning off the refrigerator occasionally after its cycle for a serious listening session prevents its noise pollution from returning to the circuit box and going back out through other circuits to degrade the performance of audio components. Dampening the general thumping sound of the refrigeration operation by use of some scrap carpet and 0.5" wool under-felt bought from the local carpet store for $10 is a good day-to-day answer. I placed under-felt/ carpet between the refrigerator/ floor and some carpet between refrigerator/ back-wall. Doubtless placing additional under-felt/ carpet against back and side-walls would be far more effective. However the sound of reverberation has long gone and the operation is now smoother and quieter. (The idea came from a dealer awhile back but thought somebody might benefit from sharing it here...) Enjoy!
