Damping Speaker Basket Arms

Are you troubled by any roughness in the sound and wonder what's causing it? It may be that the vibration from voice-coil activation travels down the arms of the speaker basket holding the membrane and is partially corrupting its sound reproduction. 'Dynamic Driver Tuning Bands' are the specifically designed solution to this problem supplied by Ron Hedrich of Marigo Audio.

Lacking the funds for that purchase, I took white Teflon tape and cut a long piece in half lengthwise to provide two thin, long strips. Then wrapped a single 5mm-wide white Teflon ring one-and-a-half times around each of the eight arms of the mid-range/ woofer baskets of one speaker. Next I compared all the music playing first from the untreated speaker and then from the other to find that the narrow Teflon rings had eliminated the roughness. So finished the task and listened to the sound coming from both channels at once.

An effective, low cost tweak to quickly apply and enjoy...
